A very interesting calcite cleavage crystal of the “Iceland Spar” variety, characterized by the double refraction that can be observed when the crystal is rotated on a surface, for example, on a sheet of paper with writing on it.
This particular piece comes from the Dima deposit in Vizcaya, a now-extinct deposit that once yielded some exceptional specimens.
