Very nice opal variety menilite opal on diatomite matrix, in the vegas of the Camarillas swamp we find these deposits of diatomites that formed in extensive basins of lagoon origin. Diatomite is a sedimentary rock composed essentially of the accumulation of remains of unicellular aquatic plants (diatoms) consolidated by a sludge composed mainly of silica (opal). Opal is often a fossilizing element of animals and plants. Their presence betrays the existence in the past of these large lagoon basins.
